Flea treatment for your yard

Treating pet resting areas in the yard is a critical part of the flea treatment. The flea larva like to develop in moist shady soil – just the areas pets like to rest too!

What to expect from our flea treatment?

We guarantee elimination of your flea problem. All eggs, larvae and adult fleas will be killed shortly after treatment. However, insecticide cannot penetrate the  pupae and so some adult fleas may emerge in the days following the treatment. However, these fleas will be killed shortly after emerging as they contact the residual insecticide on the surface.

Normally we can eliminate a flea infestation in one treatment. However, for severe infestations, a second treatment may be required around 2 weeks after the initial treatment.

Flea treatment FAQ

What flea products do you use?

We use a combination of products – an insecticide to provide the immediate kill and residual protection and insect growth regulator to provide long lasting protection. Insect growth regulators will stop eggs hatching and larvae developing into adults and they last longer on surfaces than the residual insecticide.

The flea products we use are registered for use in flea control programs. Pets and children need to be kept out of treatment areas during application but can re-enter once the treatment is dry.

Please clean away all toys and objects from rooms to be treated and outdoor areas.

Pets and people need to be removed from the treatment areas before application. (They can return once the treatment has dried).

All pet bedding, sheets and other fabrics where pets have been resting need to be washed in hot water (to kill any fleas). If the material cannot be washed in hot water, it can be placed in black plastic bags, sealed and placed in the sun for a couple of hours. The temperature inside the bag will kill any fleas and the fabric can then be washed in cold water.

The pets need to be treated for fleas – consult your veterinarian.

Cut the lawn.

Once the treatment has dried pets and people can re-enter the treatment area.

Avoid washing floors or vacuuming carpets for a few days after treatment.

The flea treatment starts to work straight away, killing adults, larvae and eggs. However, it cannot penetrate the pupa. The larvae inside the pupa can take up to 2 weeks to develop into an adult. Which means after treatment there can be emergence of fleas for up to 2 weeks. However, these fleas will be killed shortly after emergence by the residual insecticide in the carpet.

A flea treatment can last for several months on carpets inside, providing protection against re-infestation. However, it will be washed off any hard surfaces after mopping.
